Rev'd Dr. Ian Young

The Rev. Dr. Ian Young is leaving Doha and going back to his native Scotland.

Ian has a long association with Bahrain and the Gulf. In 1984 he arrived in Bahrain as Associate Chaplain at St. Christopher’s, also spending two days a week teaching at St. Christopher’s School. In 1987/88 he served as the MECC representative for the Gulf. In 1988 Ian commenced traveling to Doha for two days a week where he was instrumental in the initiation of the Anglican church in Qatar. In 1988 he moved to Doha permanently and since then has seen the steady growth of the Anglican church there, more recently being central in the planning and development of the building of an Anglican church As Arch Deacon of the diocese he has been ‘right-hand man’ for Bishop Clive for a number of years.

Ian is an accomplished pianist and choirmaster, and was Musical Director of the Manama Singers from 1985 to 1988. He will be remembered by many for the way in which he made rehearsals a pleasure, obtaining some excellent singing from the choir and conducting some fine concerts. Since moving to Qatar in 1988 he has been Musical Director of the Doha Singers and will be sorely missed by them.
We wish Ian all of the Lord’s blessings as he returns to his native land.
