The new Bishop

I am continually being asked as to when the name of the new bishop will be announced.  So just to keep you all up to date, the Diocesan Vacancy-in-See Committee (the body elected by the Synod to seek and find the next bishop) met on two occasions, firstly in Bahrain when 27 nominations were reduced to 7 names.  The second meeting took place in Dubai.  By that time 3 of the 7 names had dropped out and we were left with four of which 2 preferred candidates were selected.

At the end of June the Archdeacons (accompanied by their wives) will go to England and meet with the two preferred candidates and then report back to the Vacancy-in-See Committee.  It is hoped that by then a 'front runner' will have been identified and he (and his wife) will be invited to visit Cyprus and maybe the Middle East before making his acceptance decision.  The Synod will then be asked to approve the appointment and then his name will be broadcast.

All this of course, takes time, so we do not anticipate an announcement much before Christmas.  So please, just keep praying that we may have the wisdom and insight to identify God's choice for this critically important leadership role at this particular moment in world history.
