This and that....

Wot! No Social Committee?

Since our Cathedral AGM in March, no one has come forward to succeed Rachel Kirsop as convener or chairman of the Social Committee.  Our thanks to Rachel for all she did during her tenure of office.  Despite repeated appeals in the weekly pew sheet, no one has come forward offering to take her place.

There have been a number of responses to help but no leader.  The social fellowship life of any church is of vital importance.  We have 4 very distinct cathedral congregations but few opportunities for us all to meet socially and such events need to be organised.  Please do not wait to be asked.  "One volunteer is worth an army of pressed men or women."  If you want a biblical imperative then I refer you to Isaiah 6:8 'Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send?  And who will go for us?"  And I said, "Here am I.  Send me!" '

So who feels that call to lead our Social Committee??

Can you help?
Calling all computer buffs, especially those who have a flair for using PowerPoint

Every year at the Diocesan Synod each chaplaincy makes a 'snapshot' report of its life over the previous year so that we get a comprehensive picture of the life of the diocese.  At this years' synod one chaplaincy made a 2 minute PowerPoint presention with sound) which proved very effective and accessible.  So much so that all chaplaincies are being urged to follow suit for the next synod at the end of January 2008.  We now invite anyone with the necessary skill to come forward to volunteer to produce the St. Christopher's Cathedra. Bahrain, PowerPoint presentation for 2007/8 using the visual images that are recorded continuously of our church life.

Now there MUST be someone for whom this would be a great challenge.  Please let the Dean or the Administrator know if you are interested.

Lectern Bible

St. Christopher's Cathedral has recently taken possession of a very handsome lectern New International Version of the Bible.  We are most grateful to the generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous.  Thank you so much.  It has already been in regular use.

Plain boring or an inspiration...a recipe for what?

The following was found written on the back of one of our baptism service sheets.  Did this come as an inspired recipe to someone attending one of our services or is it an indication of utter boredom?  Perhaps someone out there might have a go and make us a trayful of whatever it is, so that we can all experience this divine revelation!

8 oz digestive biscuits (crushed); 4 oz butter; 3 tblsp. of golden syrup;
2 tblsp cocoa powder; 100 gms good quality chocolate
Melt butter & syrup in a pan.  Add the cocoa powder, mix in crussed biscuits
and press into a greased tin.  Melt the chocolate and spread on top.  Place
in fridge to set.

Sounds lovely!!  AH
