Lent and Easter

Lent will have begun with Ash Wednesday 1st March. You may be wondering what you can do to make this a special personal time of preparation for Easter and to draw closer to God. Many of our little schemes have little to do with our relationship with God, usually more to do with being more responsible towards our bodies; eating a little less chocolate, drinking less alcohol or taking more exercise. These are too often easy excuses and fail to tackle the real issues. Try something more positive:

1. Come to worship at the cathedral more regularly.

2. Don’t forget the life and work of St Christopher’s Cathedral depends on you for its very existence financially. We get no financial support from anywhere else other than here in Bahrain, and our level of freewill giving some weeks is alarmingly small. For Christians the level of their giving to the work of their local church is usually reckoned at least at 5% of disposable income, and some people rise to the challenge of 10%. Now there’s a challenge for Lent and beyond.

3. Spend more time reading the bible or a Christian book. Aids are available at the cathedral for your use.
There are no extra services laid on during Lent. If you find you cannot attend at the scheduled times because of work commitments etc then let us know. Patterns of life change over the years and our present service times may no longer meet the needs of those wishing to worship and service times are not sacrosanct.

The Services for Holy Week and Easter are set out above so please take note and don’t forget Mothering Sunday (Mother’s Day) on the weekend of Friday 24th – Sunday 26th March.
