A Lenten Feast

Let us travel together on a spiritual journey and renew our minds and cleanse our bodies, and meditate on the scriptures relating to this very sacred time of Lent. It is relating to the time in the church’s year when our Lord was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. He fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. What is that telling us? It is showing us that to overcome temptation and to see the power of God in our lives we need to fast. How we fast is entirely up to us. We can go for the “Partial Fast” which is an abstention from certain foods as undertaken by Daniel (Dan 1:8, 10:2) and by John the Baptist (Matt 3:4). “Normal Fasts”, certain days when only water and liquid are taken, and of course other “Supernatural & Absolute Fasts” which are very extreme and can only be undertaken by people who are sincerely led by the Holy Spirit to carry out this fast.

To learn more about fasting for different reasons let us look into scripture and see the power of God in action:-

Esther 9:31, Acts 13:2 Strength in worship
Numbers 6:1-4, 1 Kings 13:8-24 & Acts 23:12-21 Confirmation of an oath
2 Samuel 11:1, Daniel 1:12-16 Self discipline
Ex. 34:28, Eph. 1:17, John 16:13,14 Reception of understanding revelation
Leviticus 16:29-31, Jeremiah 36:6-9 Repentance for forgiveness
Ezra 8:21-3, Esther 4:16 Protection
s Samuel 1:1-7 Healing of body and spirit
Acts 13:1-3 Sending of missionaries
Ex. 32:14, Psalm 106:23, Jonah 3:5,9,10 Changing God's mind
(Contrary to popular opinion God can and does change his mind)

Lastly, what are the benefits of fasting? The purifying of the body and spirit.
If cleansing out the waste products, tones up the body to be a temple fit for the Holy Spirit, it also drains away unbelief, opening up more spiritual insight. The changing of us – It exposes us to God giving God the appeal and commission to change us to what He wills and to use us in a more dynamic way.
May we all be blessed in a great way, by turning our Lenten Fast into our Lenten Feast where we may be fully satisfied in body, heart, soul and spirit.
