CARNIVAL 2005

This year St Christopher's Cathedral embarks on yet another new venture. Time and again we cannot fail to be moved and impressed by the great contribution our children and young people make to the cultures of the world through music and dance. We, as a community, wish to celebrate and rejoice in this great gift.

On Friday, 4th March, in a carnival atmosphere, we invite everyone to join us and celebrate the gifts and talents of our young people.  What we shall see and hear is testament to the dedication of schools, teachers, helpers and parents and of course the commitment of the children and young people themselves.

The carnival is being compered by the popular Radio Bahrain
DJ Krazy Kevin to whom we are deeply grateful for giving up his valuable time, helping to make this a special occasion.

As well as the continuous spectacle of music-making throughout the afternoon, there will be a variety of stalls and attractions for adults and children, including games and face-painting, Refreshments. such as soft drinks, popcorn, and a barbeque will also be available.

Besides celebrating the gifts and dedication of our children and young people, this is also our essential fund raising opportunity to enhance the life and work of our cathedral and community projects.

My sincere thanks to all who have worked so hard over the last few months to make this occasion possible, not least the carnival committee, local businesses for their sponsorship, organisations and individuals who have contributed in various ways, and also to those who have donated prizes. We are also most grateful to the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Social Affairs for allowing us make this event possible.

The Cathedral Carnival

Although this edition of The Bahrain Anglican News went to print before the Carnival took place our attention and
thanks should be drawn to the Fund Raising Committee who have spent many many hours organizing this event, working together, sitting in front of computers and on the phone ensuring that all goes well on the day. Thank you everyone.

Anyone who has organised an event such as this will know what a sacrifice and commitment in time, effort and stress goes into making it happen. All this is done in order that we may be able to pay our way financially and to some extent survive. Yes, even churches need money to under-gird the work of God.

There are those who feel that such events, including prize draws, are not appropriate ways for churches to fund their work. Those people may well be right, but if there is a short fall in our weekly freewill giving, that must be made up in some way for us to balance our budget.
