In the Anglican Church what do we do other
than sit or sink to our knees when the worship leader says “Let us
pray”?
Those three simple words herald the beginning of a time of prayer -
an essential element in all our worship. I often feel there ought to
follow a time of quiet when we all get on and do just that – PRAY!
There frequently follow far too many words from the leader when we
ought to be sharing a time of quiet prayerful contemplation of
Almighty God in the company of our brothers and sisters in faith.
There are of course times when we pray in solitude as well as in
company needing inspiration and information for our prayer. Never
fear! Help is at hand!
Within the Anglican tradition of prayer and worship intercessory
prayer is rather like a telescope needing to be focused at one
moment on the world at large or the church in the world, and at
another on the local community or the people with whom we are the
Body of Christ in this place.
By the end of September the 1st edition of St. Christopher’s
Cathedral Intercession Prayer Calendar will be available to anyone
who requests it. This simple publication will provide specific
topics for intercession for each day of the month and space on the
page for you to add your own topics for regular prayer. The focus
will be both world wide, particularly for the church in the diocese
and province, and local as we pray for each other in our cathedral
congregations and Awali.
This is intended to be the 1st edition of SCCIPC as I invite you to
submit your own information and suggestions for the 2nd edition
which will appear at the beginning of 2006.
