Remembering

The older we get the more necessary it seems to become to invent devices to help us remember important things. We write down birthdays, anniversaries, shopping lists and so on so that we do not forget. So it is with the annual days of celebration which the church provides in its calendar. Almost daily we have a saint whose life we reflect upon, or one of the great apostles of Jesus or the major events in the life and ministry of Jesus himself.
Over the next couple of months and into November we also set aside 3 weekends to remember things:

1 ...to say ‘thank you’ to God for the Harvest of good things we enjoy and use daily and which we too often take for granted. We teach our children to say ‘thank you’ when they are given a gift. We ought to set the example and come aside to say thank you to God the giver of all good things at the Harvest Thanksgiving weekend (5th – 7th October)

2. …to say ‘thank you’ to God for those who spend their life, sometimes enduring hardship and great danger, bringing us those essentials of life as seafarers. This we do when we keep ‘Sea Sunday’ (26th – 28th October)

…to say ‘thank you’ remembering and commemorating those who gave their lives in two world wars and those who continue to give their lives in the conflicts of today. This year Remembrance Day (November 11th) falls on a Sunday so arrangements will have to be slightly different than in previous years.

Friday and Saturday Family Services

After the lull of the long hot summer period we confidently expect the 9.30 a.m. Friday family service at St Christopher’s and the Saturday 10.00 a.m. service at Awali to get back to the vibrant worship occasions they have become. During September we shall be using the Scripture Union theme, following the way St Paul called others into the exciting experience of team work in spreading the Gospel of Jesus. We do hope that adults will continue to come forward and sacrifice a bit of their church time to caring for the younger children on some Fridays for their own activities in the Coffee Room.

Also remember that everything you need to know about St Christopher’s is on the website at www.stchcathedral.org.bh.

We are indebted to Gloria and Derrick Rea who despite the fact that they have retired to Northern Ireland still act as our ever vigilant webmasters. Thank you.
